Legend:
Submissions in plain type are from a document titled "COMET
LODGE CEMETERY BURIALS" and their Source: Public Records (King County and City of Seattle)
Author: unknown, but there is strong evidence that Tim O'Brian, with and "a" as the Protestants spell it,
completed this survey. The legends are funeral parlors and newspapers. Tim, before his passing, had copies of
deeds and death certificates of many of the departed, as well as photos and information of
the Georgetown area. 9.25.97to: 'I have a cousin buried here. His is a sad story... He

Submissions in bold are from recent phone calls, faxes and
mail to John Dickinson. They are dated and intialed as to who submitted them. Example, Tim
O'Brian's claim that he is the author of the above list. Nevertheless,
personal submissions sometimes are different from the press or other records. And that is
the reason for this work. With enough submissions, a more accurate accounting is possible.
Its best not to rely on the press for complete accuracy,
but it is a great place to start your search.
Submissions underlined and italized are as accurate as you can get without going to the graveyard yourself. The source of this work is Seattle Public Library, Genealogy section, author unknown. They are recorded
inscriptions from the stones themselves.

Italicized and bold type represents personal submissions to John Dickinson. Attempts have been made to date and initial all personal submissions.

LAID TO REST TUESDAY Mrs. Katherine Albrecht, pioneer, gentle woman and lovable mother, is
no more. She departed from this life at eh age of 63 years, after suffering from dropsy
for the last three weeks. She was buried on Tuesday from the parlors of the Georgetown
Undertaking Company, the Rev. J.F. Pflueger, of the Lutheran Church, of Georgetown,
officiated at the services. Mrs. R.M. Erspamer sang "Lead Kindly Light," and
"Abide With Me." Miss Vera Sprinkle was the accompanist at eh organ. The
interment was in the family plot at the Odd Fellows Cemetery, at Georgetown, on Graham
Avenue. The pallbearers were: Casteel A. Schaaf, Alexander Brewer, John anderson and
George Rau. The casket was covered with laurel tributes from loving friends and people who
felt and deemed it an honor this sweet, wholesome housewife, who had such amiable ways.
Mrs. Katherine Albrecht was born in Germany and was married to Frank albrecht, and with
him, came to Medford, Wis., where was born John Albrecht, proprietor of the Georgetown
Wood and Coal Yard. The family then moved to Jackson County, North Dakota, Where Frank
albrecht, Mrs. Gehring and Mrs. Sales were born. From Minnesota the family moved in 1889
to Seattle, where a short time they lived at Sixteenth and Yesler Way and then moved to
Fourteenth and Director Street in South Park, where William Albrecht, who is now in Alaska
was born. The family then moved to the home at 957 Nebraska Street, where the grand old
lady breathed her last. Frank Albrecht, the husband, died on December 17, 1897. In
addition to her childrenm, she left Leonard and Rose Gehring and Katherine Sales, her
grand children, to mourn her demise. Mrs. Albrecht was a kindly woman, and many acts of
sweet, wholesome help to the needy and the distressed are park of her record of charity
and compassion. Her words are few, but her deeds spoke volumes. 9.17.23mc

William Dickinson, an
enterprising and representative farmer residing on section 5, Illyria Township, is of
English birth. He was born in Lincolnshire, England, April 23, 1832, and is a son of Joseph and Sarah
Dickinson.
His father died when William was quite young, and at
the age of six years he was taken by a very distant relative, in whose home near Boston,
England, he was reared. He received good opportunities for acquiring an education and now
his only regret is that he did not make better use of them. When seventeen years of age,
thinking his master a little strict, he left him, but a short time convinced him that the
old man was right, and returning, he remained with him until his marriage.
In the month of February, 1855, our subject wedded Miss Anne Dickinson, a native of the same county, who
is abut four years his junior. Being destined to form one of the social class of laborers
in his native land, he decided to come to the United States, and embarked upon a
sailing-vessel, the 'Gerrick,' which after seven
weeks and three days landed him and his wife safely in New York City.
Soon afterward, however, they continued their journey
until reaching Cleveland, Ohio, in the vicinity of which place he worked our for $13 per
month. On coming to Iowa in the autumn of 1855, he settled in Garnavillo, Clayton County,
where two years were spent, after which he located on a farm in Boardman Township, that
County.
The financial panic of 1857 and a defective title,
caused him to lose his place, he having hardly anything left but some valuable experience
which would not lead him into a similar error again. Not discouraged by his losses, he
once more purchased land and step by step worked his way upward. In 1869 he purchased one
hundred and ten acres of land, a part of his present farm, and has here since made his
home. At one time he owned a quarter-section, but has since disposed of sixty acres,
retaining one hundred acres which are under a high state of cultivation and well improved.
In 1875 Mr. Dickinson was called upon to mourn the
loss of his wife, who died on the 13th of December, leaving eight children, one a babe two
weeks old: William J., the eldest, is now a farmer
of Custer County, Nebraska; Elizabeth A. is the
wife of George Irish, who resides in this county; Mary A. wedded Jackson
Dye, a resident of Custer County, Nebraska; Francis
J. is the wife of Elmer Davis, who lives in
Clayton County, Iowa; Joseph E. is engaged in
agricultural pursuits in Fayette County; Lillie M,
is the wife of W. Conner; Cassie F. is at home; and Ellen died in infancy.
On the 9th of February, 1879, Mr. Dickinson was again
married, his second union being with Mrs. Martha H.
Hammond, nee McLond, a native of New York. Both he and his wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and in the community are
held in high regard by many friends and acquaintances.
In politics he is a Republican, and cast his first
Presidential vote for Abraham Lincoln. As every true American citizen should do, he feels
an interest in public affairs, but has never sought office. However, he acceptably served
as Justice of the Peace for nine years.
Mr. Dickinson is numbered among the successful farmers
of his township, and in the truest sense of the word is a self-made man, for he began life
without capital, and overcoming all difficulties and disadvantages, pressed forward until
he had at length acquired the competence which ranks him among the well-to-do farmers of
the community.

Dear Mr. John Dickinson
In April of 1990, on Chanel 7, a woman told of an abandoned cemetery called Comet Lodge
Cemetery on Beacon Hill. She said they were trying to make it a park like place and if
they didn't get help a tombstone that she was working around would be destroyed. She said
the name on the tombstone was Fannie Lyman Rardin.
Fannie Lyman Rardin was my grandmouther. She died when my mother was 12 years old. My
mother was the oldest of four children. Fannie Lyman Rardin was buried July 1895 in the
comet Lodge Cemetery 102 years ago. My grandfather Loren Daily Rardin died november 1913
and was also buried in the same cemetery. My Grandparents and a younger sister of my
grandmother came to Seattle from Nebraska in 1890.
My cousin found out the name of the lady on television, also the address of the cemetery.
My husband and I went the next day and found the grave of my grandmother but not the grave
of my grandfather. The following day we went again. Young men from a fraternity of the U
of W were working clearing blackberry vines off the cemetery. We Cleared around my
grandmother's grave. There were felled trees and big branches all around, but no
gravestone of my gradfather's nearby.
While we were there a 90 year old man that lived up the street told us before World War II
his daughter and her friend worked onthe cemetery and make it parklike and and beautiful.
But the war came and when his daughter came back from service in the navy she found
vandals had ruined it.
My husband and I. soon after that, went to a meeting, at the corner house across from the
cemetery, with other people who had family buried there. We paid some dues, elected an
officer to find out who owned the cemetery annd if anything could be done about it. Didn't
hear anymore and the moey was returned moonths late. So time went by. I have thought often
abut how the Indians feel aobut their graveyards.
I won't be out to help on the graveyard shift halloween night, I am an old lady of eighty
years and more, with black hat and broom, I scare kids from my door.
"Mrs. Kate is no relation. Our family has done extensive family history and find no
one by that name. My grandaughter and grandnephew are in the area. Grandaughter has moved
to Greorgetown to fix up a house there. Grandson is a lawyer in Gig Harbor & Seattle
and is very interested. I have many photos as well as he and will share them with you for
your records. Another family member has been working on an extensive family history book.
I will contact her." 12.31.97 jw
