Performing heARTS.org provides performing arts to all people regardless of the physical, mental or economic situation that may limit them from attending performing arts on their own. Perform heARTS purpose is to help restore these peoples' health, hope and happiness through the experience of live performance.

Artistic experiences elicit powerful feelings and positive expectations. Studies have shown that quality of life is greatly enhanced by exposure to live performances. Have you ever wept during a play because of the powerful performance of the actors? Or have you ever laughed so much at a comedian that you wanted them to stop just so you could catch your breath? Do you remember listening to a jazz trio that was so upbeat you just couldn't keep your feet from moving? Performing heARTS.org believes everyone deserves to have experiences like those.

"Aldous Huxley and Christopher Isherwood asked us to play at a Veterans Hospital, in a ward with severely catatonic patients who didn't move from a position that they were sitting in for days....What they wanted to determine, Huxley and Isherwood, was whether live musicians playing for them made more of a difference than canned music....Shortly afer we started playing, the doctors got very excited because patients were tapping their feet to the beat....Then all of a sudden one patient got up and took the trumpet out of our trumpet player's mouth and started playing. Obviously he had never played before. But for some reason he was making some kind of rhythmic sense....
Well, you should have seen the joy of these doctors when this happened because this was someone who had shown no inteest in anything and had responded to nothing....
The doctors recorded our performance and then came back and played the recording to the exact people in the same room at a later date. There was no response.

I have always said that the audience was the fifth member of my quartet."
Dave Brubeck, pianist.
